Batteries and Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Protecting life and equipment within energy storage systems specific to lithium-ion battery usage

Grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESSs) allow batteries to be charged, for example from renewable energy sources, during times of low electricity usage. BESSs store the energy ready for release during peak times or to cover periods when renewable sources such as wind and sun cannot meet demand.

One of the greater risks of BESS containers is thermal runaway caused by battery malfunction. A range of safety features and systems are used to mitigate this risk. One of the last lines of defense is to limit and control the damaging impact of a thermal runaway event.

OsecoElfab’s rupture discs and explosion vents protect against the worst-case scenario of a catastrophic explosion by reliably venting excess heat and pressure in a controlled manner. Our product range covers the standard industry ‘low’ pressures, sizes, and materials as well as custom designs specific to your enclosure. Contact us to discuss your custom requirements in more detail.

Lithium-ion Batteries

The automotive industry often requires custom pressure relief devices for cars, trucks, buses, and specialty vehicles. OsecoElfab provides an array of custom discs for this market. In addition, we offer a full line of discs to protect lithium-ion battery cells and enclosures for electric/hybrid vehicles.
